Back in the day starters pitched the whole game and a relief pitcher was only used out of absolute necessity. That hasn't been true for more than 50 years. 200 career wins for a pitcher is the new 300 and that number is falling.
We discuss pitchers not getting credit for the win because they could not finish 5 innings. This is despite that sometimes the innings pitched by a starter were the most effective of all the team's pitchers in a game never trailed and one in which the starter left with a lead.
